We recommend bringing your child for their first dental visit by age 1 or within six months of their first tooth appearing. Early visits establish a positive relationship with dental care and allow us to monitor development from the start.

The CDBS provides eligible children aged 0-17 with up to $1,095 in dental benefits over two consecutive calendar years. Eligibility is linked to receiving a qualifying government payment such as Family Tax Benefit Part A. We can check your child's eligibility at the time of booking.

For CDBS-eligible children, most routine services are covered at no out-of-pocket cost. For non-eligible children, based on current pricing, the Arete New Patient Child Experience is $149 - including comprehensive examination, gentle scale and clean, fluoride treatment, oral hygiene instruction, X-rays if clinically required and developmental assessment. We accept all major health funds. All cases vary.

Fissure sealants are a thin, protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth (molars) where decay most commonly starts. They seal the grooves and pits, making the tooth easier to clean and significantly reducing decay risk. The application is quick, painless and does not require any drilling.

We take a gentle, patient approach with anxious children. We use tell-show-do techniques, allow extra time, keep language positive and age-appropriate, and never force treatment. Our ceiling-mounted screens with TV help children relax during their visit.

We recommend an initial orthodontic assessment around age 7-8, when the first adult molars and incisors have erupted. Early assessment allows us to identify developing bite or alignment issues and determine the best timing for any intervention.

Dental X-rays are taken only when clinically indicated - for example, to check for decay between teeth, assess developing adult teeth or evaluate after trauma. We use digital X-rays with very low radiation and take the minimum number necessary.

Regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste, limiting sugary snacks and drinks, fissure sealants on back teeth, and six-monthly dental check-ups are the most effective ways to prevent cavities. We provide age-appropriate advice at every visit.

Contact us immediately. For a knocked-out baby tooth, do not try to replant it. For a knocked-out adult tooth, keep it moist (in milk or saliva) and bring your child and the tooth to us as quickly as possible. Time is critical for adult teeth.
